Mountain Living

Bittersweet is a mountain cabin on the side of the hill. The cabin was renovated in 2019 into two units (Main Cabin and Studio). It is one of three homes on family property that overlooks Rocky Mountain National Park.
Bittersweet is a special place to retreat, live quietly among pine trees, and listen to the wind (oh, the wind in Estes). It has great neighbors, acreage to breathe, and views to die for. 
Main Cabin:
  • 900 square feet. 
  • W/D, full shower, great storage closets, disposal, D/W, electric stove, frig, newly built porch to sit and watch the world.
  • Back entrance has a ramp.
  • Newly installed electric heaters zoned separately for the kitchen/LR and BR. New kitchen sink and faucet.
  • Bay windows facing west in the living room and bedroom.

The Studio:
  • Separate entrance on the back side of the house.
  • Full bath, one larger open room, and sliding doors out to a sun room with windows facing south and west. 
  • Main studio and sun room have separately zoned heating units.
Location, Location, Location....:
  • Nearly uninterrupted view of the Rockies from Twin Sisters to Lumpy Ridge, a big view of Longs Peak and Meeker.
  • 5 minutes from downtown on the east side of Estes, but feels a world away: easy access to Hwy 7, Hwy 36, Stanley Parks, the Rec Center, Lake Estes.

​Considerations:
  • Long dirt road, slow speed is required to preserve the road and low gear or all-wheel drive advised in the snow.
  • Beware (and celebrate) wild animals and high winds. Again, high winds.
  • Well water and septic tank. Be mindful of water usage, chemicals and disposal system.
  • Property manager is on site.
  • Parking is available and free, one car per person on the lease.
  • The cabin is located on 25 acres of family property and backs up to Roosevelt National Forest. Tenants are not allowed to roam freely across family property lines, but the bottom of the hill puts you right onto the Fish Creek Trail. 
  • Bittersweet is split in two private units. The shared wall between the Main Cabin and studio apartment is not soundproof. If both tenants are home at the same time, you will hear some noise. The personal relationship between the Main Cabin and Studio is important. Respect and consideration, opposite work schedules, and "adulting" have disabled any concerns thus far.
 
Rules:
  • Prefer no pets, there is already a dog running around.
  • This is not a party palace. Music and voices bounce off the rocks. You will be living next door to a family and the elders who own the property live on the other side part-time. Town quiet hours are 10 pm - 7 am, but more than that, this is a quiet hillside.
  • No smoking on the property. No smoking outside or in the cabin at any time. We just had a wildfire on the property; you will notice the burnt trees above the house. This is a touchy one. No fires. No smoking. A grill may be used when it is allowed by the fire district.
  • Respect the space: no trash outside, etc.
 
Money:
$1755/month for the Main Cabin. 
One year lease. 
Rent includes water, electric, sewer.
Does not include internet (generally $25/month for service in Estes).
House does not come with furnishings. 
Trash and recycle pick-up service is available for $5/large bag).
Due at signing:
  1.  $1000 Deposit (refundable pending any required repairs and/or professional cleaning)
  2.  First and last month rent
 
Fine Print:
  • A standard Colorado rental contract must be in place to protect both tenant and landlord prior to occupancy.
  • References will be checked and a background check is required.
