Mountain Living

Bittersweet Cabin is currently rented through end of March, 2024
I have transformed my mom and aunt's summer cabin into an open floor plan, one bedroom/one bath space for rent. Great neighbors, acreage to breathe, and views to die for.
Bittersweet is a family cabin on the side of a hill looking at Rocky Mountain National Park, specifically Longs Peak and Meeker.  The cabin has been refinished as a 900 sq ft one bedroom/bath with an open floor plan. There is an adjoining studio apartment with a separate entrance. Bittersweet is a special spot to retreat, live quietly among pine trees, and listen to the wind. Lots of wind.

Amenities:
  • Nearly uninterrupted view of the Rockies from Twin Sisters to Lumpy Ridge, a big view of Longs Peak and Meeker.
  • 5 minutes from downtown; easy access to Hwy 7, Hwy 36, Stanley Parks, Lake Estes, and the east side of Estes, but feels very far away.
  • W/D, full shower, great storage closets, disposal, D/W, electric stove, frig, newly built porch to sit and watch the world.
  • Newly installed electric heaters zoned separately for the kitchen/LR and BR. New kitchen sink and faucet.

Considerations:
  • Long dirt road, slow speed is required to preserve the road and low gear or all-wheel drive advised in the snow.
  • Beware (and celebrate) wild animals and high winds. Again, high winds.
  • Well water and septic tank. Be mindful of water usage, chemicals and disposal system.
  • Property manager is next door; parking available between homes.
  • Bittersweet is adjacent to a studio apartment which has a separate exterior entrance and sliding barn door between spaces. You are in a cabin on the hill, but if both tenants are home at the same time, you will know it is not soundproof; it is private, but you do share an adjoining wall.
  • The cabin is located on 25 acres of family property and backs up to Roosevelt National Forest. Tenants are not allowed to roam freely across family property lines, but the bottom of the hill puts you right onto the Fish Creek Trail.

Rules:
  • Prefer no pets, there is already a dog running around.
  • This is not a party palace. No loud music that bounces off the rocks. You will be living between a mother and pre-teen daughter and the grandparents, owners of the property. Town quiet hours are 10 pm - 7 am, but more than that, this is a quiet hillside.
  • No smoking on the property outside or in the cabin at any time. We just had a fire on the property, you will notice the burnt trees above the house. This is a touchy one. No fires. No smoking.
  • Respect the space: no trash outside, etc.

Money:
  • $1400/month for an individual for longer term rental (4 months plus). Shorter term rentals or couples will be negotiated.
  • Additional Utilities include:
    • $180/ month for gas, electric, water, sewer
    • (optional) $12/month trash if you use the system on the hill
    • (optional) $25-50/month wifi should you choose to have these services—some people prefer a hotspot or just cellular).
  • Due at signing:
  1.  $400 Deposit (refundable pending any required repairs and/or professional cleaning)
  2.  First and last month rent

Fine Print:
  • A standard Colorado rental contract must be in place to protect both tenant and landlord prior to occupancy.
  • References will be checked and a background check is required.
